- Retirement age of public sector employees have to be decided based on physical strength required for the job. it means that primary job (semi skilled) needs more physical fitness of employees followed by secondary job (semi skilled). Tertiary job is mainly depended on mental fitness rather than physical fitness.
Hence, retirement age of public sector is to be decided separately for these job categories. It is suggested retirement age as 60 for primary and secondary job categories whereas tertiary level public officers may be extended up to 62 based on evaluation of his/her mental and physical fitness that are to be certified by the registered medical officer.
Further, Life expectancy of average sri Lankan in 2020 is 77 years according to world bank data. if it is retirement age is 60, an average, a person can involve 17 years in socio economic activities other than government sector. Eg: household related social activities (parenting) for better social life, consulting based on his/her experience etc.
